One of the highlights of our stay at the Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel was breakfast at ICON, the hotel’s main restaurant on the ground floor. After our fun pool time and relaxed lounge visits, we were really looking forward to a proper sit-down breakfast as a family — and ICON absolutely delivered.
We arrived just after 7am, and the restaurant was already warm and welcoming. ICON opens early, from 6:00am to 11:00am, which is ideal for families like ours trying to make the most of the day. The dining room has a stylish yet relaxed feel, with modern wooden tables, deep leather benches, and a large gallery wall filled with LA-themed art and photography. It struck just the right balance between trendy and cosy — not too loud or flashy, but still interesting enough for the kids to take notice of their surroundings. There was plenty of space between tables, which meant we never felt crowded, and natural light poured in from the skylights, making the whole space feel bright and fresh.
The breakfast setup was buffet style, and it offered something for all of us. Our children were immediately drawn to the colourful fruit bowls — perfectly chopped watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe, and fresh berries. There were little glass pots filled with yoghurt and granola, which looked like mini desserts and were a definite hit. Our eldest confidently helped himself to cereal and milk, while our younger one made a careful selection of grapes and strawberries and declared them the “best fruit ever.”
As for the buffet itself, the range on offer was generous and inviting. Alongside the cold items were several hot dishes that looked delicious — crispy bacon, sausages, breakfast potatoes, sautéed vegetables, waffles, steel cut oats, and more. Everything was neatly arranged and kept warm, with helpful signs so you always knew what you were looking at. There was also a small selection of sliced cheeses and cold cuts, as well as a toaster with breads and toppings like jam, butter, and peanut butter.
The coffee, served from the Illy machine, was strong and exactly what we needed to start our day — smooth, rich, and full of flavour. There were also pastries and sweet treats tucked away in a corner, which we discovered just in time for our second round.
What really stood out was the service. There were two gentlemen working during our visit, and they were absolutely wonderful. They were friendly and efficient, greeting everyone with a smile and quietly clearing plates without ever interrupting the flow of our meal. They made sure we had everything we needed and even offered to bring out hot chocolate for the kids, which completely made their morning. It was one of those small touches that turns an ordinary meal into a memorable one.
We stayed for nearly an hour, taking our time and enjoying the unhurried pace. It felt like a proper family breakfast, not just a rushed bite before heading out. The kids were happy, we were well fed, and the whole experience left us feeling relaxed and ready for the day ahead. Breakfast at ICON became one of those little traditions during our stay — something we all looked forward to when we woke up.
If you’re staying at the Renaissance LAX, don’t miss breakfast at ICON. It’s more than just food — it’s a peaceful, stylish, and family-friendly way to start the day, and one we’ll definitely remember fondly.
