We were absolutely thrilled to be booked into the Corpo Santo Lisbon Historical Hotel for a family stay, and as a family of four – myself, my wife and our two children – we couldn't wait to explore the city. This was our first time staying at the hotel, and given its position right on the beautiful Largo do Corpo Santo in the heart of Lisbon, our expectations were high from the moment we arrived.
For our stay, we were given the hotel's Luxury Family Superior Connecting Room, made up of two separate bedrooms designed to give families like ours plenty of space and, just as importantly, plenty of privacy.
The hotel itself has just 75 rooms, eight of which are suites, and thanks to the building's beautiful Pombaline architecture, every single room is different, which means every stay here is genuinely unique. The décor throughout leans into Lisbon's sense of calm and wellbeing, all soft shades of brown and beige, gentle lighting, and traditional touches including the city's unmistakable tiles worked in throughout. It felt authentic, elegant and properly Lisbon, rather than the generic hotel feel you sometimes get elsewhere.
Our two connecting rooms were tucked away along the same corridor, and stepping into the main bedroom was a real WOW moment. It had a glorious king-sized bed dressed in crisp white linen, a dark wood headboard, and a full-length mirror in the corner that made the whole room feel even bigger. A lovely bit of local artwork ran the length of one wall, and the room overlooked the square outside, so we had a proper slice of Lisbon life right beneath our window.
Through to the second room, our two children had twin beds all to themselves, with the same warm wood-toned styling and a striking piece of coastal artwork above the beds. Both rooms were fitted with a large flat-screen TV, and it was clear from the moment we walked in that no detail had been overlooked.
The welcome the hotel had prepared for us was honestly one of the loveliest we've come across. We'd barely had time to unpack before there was a knock at the door – just ten minutes after we'd got into the room, a member of staff arrived with a beautifully wrapped fruit hamper, complete with a fresh pineapple, along with a plate of freshly baked cookies for each of the children and what looked like a little bottle of chocolate milk each. That kind of speed and attention to detail goes down brilliantly after a day of travelling with little ones.
But it was what was waiting for the children on the beds that really stole the show. Each of them found a Força Portugal gift bag containing an official Portugal football shirt, a national flag, and a Cristiano Ronaldo face mask on a stick. Both children were jumping up and down with pure excitement, and honestly, it's the kind of gesture that turns a hotel stay into a proper holiday memory. They wore those masks for the rest of the evening.
Alongside it all was a lovely little "free midnight snack" card, letting us know we could order something later on if the children fancied it, though after that spread arrived so quickly, there really wasn't much need.
This was, without question, the highlight of the whole stay for all four of us. The bathrooms at the Corpo Santo feature chromotherapy: a treatment that uses alternating coloured light to help create balance and harmony between body, mind and emotions. Red is there to stimulate, blue to soothe, yellow to lift the mood, and green to relax, and you can simply choose whichever colour suits how you're feeling.
Stepping into the shower bathed in a deep red glow, with soft, relaxing music playing quietly in the background, felt like something you'd expect from a spa rather than a family hotel room. It's a genuinely immersive, high-tech hydrotherapy experience, and our children were completely mesmerised by it, changing the colours over and over again. The grown-ups loved it just as much – if I'm honest, none of us wanted to leave the room that evening.
The main bedroom was generously proportioned, with the king bed as the centrepiece beneath a striking piece of wall art. A large mirrored wardrobe ran along one side, and there was a neat little round side table set up with the room service menu and that gorgeous fruit hamper waiting for us. A digital safe and a Nespresso coffee machine were tucked away discreetly, along with air conditioning and a 4K television for evenings in.
The children's twin room mirrored the same warm, wood-toned styling, with its own bedside tables, lamps and telephone, plus floor-to-ceiling windows that let in beautiful natural light over the square below. Having their own space, with their Portugal shirts and masks laid out proudly on the beds, made them feel like the whole trip was just for them.
Each of our two rooms came with its own ensuite, which made getting two children ready at the same time so much easier. The bathrooms were fitted with dark wood countertops, twin sinks in one, mosaic-style tiling, and were fully stocked with lovely toiletries lined up neatly on the shelf, along with a fresh tissue box and dried flower arrangements for a nice homely touch. One bathroom had a walk-in shower with a rainfall head and a handy grab rail, the other a bath with an overhead shower attachment, both finished with soft white towels bearing the Corpo Santo name. And, of course, both were fitted with that wonderful chromotherapy lighting we couldn't get enough of.
Beyond the beds and bathrooms, the room ticked every box for a family stay. There was a well-stocked minibar with a great selection of Portuguese soft drinks, beers and water – and the best part was that it was completely complimentary, so the children could help themselves to a can of something fizzy without us worrying about the bill at the end. Add to that air conditioning throughout, a digital safe for valuables, and free Wi-Fi that made keeping in touch with home easy, and the room really did have everything we needed without having to leave it. The connecting door between our two rooms meant we could leave it open to listen out for the children overnight, or close it for a bit of peace once they were tucked up asleep, and it was lovely knowing that if anyone fancied a treat, the minibar was right there, free of charge.
Our stay at the Corpo Santo Lisbon Historical Hotel was nothing short of memorable. The Luxury Family Superior Connecting Room felt genuinely designed with families in mind, from the separate sleeping spaces to the thoughtful welcome touches, the football shirts that made our children's holiday, and that unforgettable chromotherapy shower experience none of us wanted to switch off.
Add to that the hotel's stunning location right on Largo do Corpo Santo, in the heart of historic Lisbon, and you have a stay that's as much about the setting as the room itself. It's also worth saying that the generosity didn't stop at the bedroom door – there was a lovely spread of sweets, cake and even ice cream down in the lobby too, so it was clear this was a hotel that genuinely loves spoiling its younger guests. But it was the room itself that we kept coming back to. We'd happily return to the Corpo Santo for another family getaway, and if you're travelling to Lisbon with children and want a stay that feels personal, luxurious and genuinely fun, this is well worth booking.
