Hyatt Regency Newport Beach Pickleball And Golf Review

During our unforgettable stay at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach, we knew the Oasis Pool would be a major highlight. What we didn’t expect, however, was how much we’d come to appreciate the hotel’s other outdoor offerings — namely, the fantastic pickleball courts and the lush, beautifully designed executive golf course. Whether you're a casual player, competitive spirit, or just in the mood for something new, this resort truly caters to guests of all ages and interests.

Let’s start with pickleball — a sport that has taken the world by storm in recent years. Hyatt Regency Newport Beach is one of the few resorts in the area that offers dedicated pickleball courts, and they’re incredibly well-maintained. Located on the back side of the property, near the tennis area, the courts are tucked away in a peaceful spot surrounded by palm trees and the resort’s signature tropical landscaping. The nets are sturdy, the surface is smooth and responsive, and the area feels fresh and open.

Well-kept pickleball courts surrounded by lush palms made the perfect setting for daily family matches.

We had never played before, but after borrowing paddles and balls from the front desk, we gave it a go — and quickly became hooked. Pickleball is the perfect blend of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, making it easy to learn but endlessly fun to play. Within minutes, the kids were diving into rallies and laughing at every bounce. It wasn’t long before we turned it into a family tournament, rotating teams and cheering each other on under the warm California sun.

Every morning after breakfast, we found ourselves back here — hooked on the fun and family energy of the game.

One of the best things about the Hyatt’s pickleball setup is that it feels inclusive. You don’t need to be a pro — you just need a sense of fun and a willingness to try. It became our morning ritual to head down after breakfast and play a few games before heading to the pool. We met other guests doing the same, and there was a great sense of community and casual competition. Whether you’re picking up a paddle for the first time or bringing your own gear for serious matches, the courts are ready and waiting.

When we weren’t on the courts, we discovered a different kind of outdoor fun — the hotel’s executive 9-hole golf course. This isn’t just a patch of grass with a few holes. It’s a genuinely beautiful course, nestled into the rolling hills of the property, surrounded by swaying trees, blooming flowers, and ocean breezes that made every round feel special. It’s ideal for both beginners and experienced golfers, with shorter holes that are perfect for practicing short game skills and enjoying a relaxed pace.

Rolling greens framed by coastal landscaping created a peaceful, easy-to-enjoy course for the whole family.

We loved how family-friendly the course was. There’s no need for an 18-hole commitment or strict dress codes. You can walk the course in just over an hour, clubs in hand, enjoying the views and the challenge. For us, it was the perfect way to spend time outdoors, get a little exercise, and do something different together as a family. The kids enjoyed putting and driving, while we soaked in the sunshine and admired how well the course is kept.

Even the kids joined in, enjoying the relaxed pace of the game and the open, breezy layout of the course.

The views from the higher holes are surprisingly stunning — you can see over the property’s lush grounds, past the palm-lined roads, and even glimpse Newport Bay in the distance. The landscaping is pristine, and the vibe is unhurried and relaxed. Even if you’re not a golfer, just walking the course is a peaceful and scenic experience.

Views like these made the course unforgettable — palm-lined fairways and coastal air in every direction.

The Hyatt Regency Newport Beach has clearly put thought into making its outdoor amenities as enjoyable as possible. From the pickleball courts to the golf greens, it’s all designed with accessibility and enjoyment in mind. Equipment is available for guests to borrow, and the staff is happy to help set you up if you’re unsure of where to start. It’s these thoughtful touches that make the experience feel welcoming.

What stood out most was how the pickleball and golf experiences brought us together in new ways. We weren’t just lounging — we were learning, laughing, and connecting through a bit of healthy competition. These weren’t just bonus features of the resort — they became core parts of our trip, giving us memories that extended far beyond the poolside.

If you’re heading to Hyatt Regency Newport Beach, make sure to pack a pair of trainers and a sense of adventure. You don’t need to be an athlete to enjoy what’s on offer — just open to trying something new. Whether you're picking up a pickleball paddle for the first time or walking the golf course at sunset, you’ll find something special waiting for you.

From friendly pickleball matches to serene rounds of golf, the Hyatt gave us space not only to relax but to play, move, and enjoy each other’s company in the fresh coastal air. And that, for us, was a hole-in-one.
