One Bedroom King Suite at The Kimberly Hotel Review

The Kimberly Hotel is a luxury four-star boutique hotel tucked away at 145 East 50th Street in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. We booked the Luxury One Bedroom King Suite with a sofa bed for the children, and from the moment we stepped inside, it was clear this suite was something really special.

First Impressions and Check-In

The Kimberly is a proper boutique hotel, individually decorated throughout, and our suite had that traditional, antique-style charm running through it: warm wood furnishings, patterned wallpaper, and rich burgundy carpet that gave the whole space a cosy, elegant feel rather than the cookie-cutter look you get in a lot of big chain hotels.

The Living Room

The living room was genuinely spacious, far bigger than we expected for a hotel suite in the middle of Manhattan. There was a lovely sofa that turned into a sofa bed, perfect for our kids later in the evening, along with two armchairs, a round coffee table, a writing desk, and a large wall-mounted television, all arranged in a way that gave everyone their own space to relax. It felt more like a proper sitting room than a hotel corner, and with two children in tow, having somewhere for them to spread out with their books and games away from the bedroom made a real difference.

The Bedroom

The bedroom itself was every bit as impressive. The king bed was dressed with a featherbed, Italian linens and a plush down comforter, and it was easily one of the most comfortable hotel beds we've slept in. A gilded mirror hung above the headboard, and a cosy armchair sat by the window, perfect for reading with a coffee in the morning. The whole room had that same antique-style elegance as the living room, and it felt like a proper retreat after a long day of sightseeing.

The Bathroom

The bathroom was sleek and modern, with grey marble-effect tiling running from floor to ceiling, a rainfall shower head over the tub, and a smart black stone countertop with a striking sink. Little touches like the tissue box and a neat basket of toiletries made it feel properly looked after, and it was a lovely contrast to the more traditional decor found in the rest of the suite.

The Kitchenette

One feature that genuinely surprised us was the kitchenette, tucked neatly into the living room. It came with a mini-fridge, a microwave, a sink, a coffee maker and even a small dishwasher, which made it so easy to keep bottles cold for the children and knock together a quick breakfast before heading out for the day. It's the sort of practical touch that makes a real difference when you're travelling as a family.

The Balcony and the View

The real showstopper, though, was the balcony. Balconies are a genuine rarity for hotels in New York City, and stepping out onto ours, with a little table and two chairs looking straight out over the Midtown skyline, felt like an absolute treat.

Even just looking out from inside the room, the view of the surrounding skyscrapers was spectacular, a proper reminder of exactly where in the world we were.

The Location

Being on East 50th Street put us right in the thick of Midtown, and it made getting around the city so easy. The children absolutely loved the hotel itself, but if we're being honest, they could barely sit still, desperate to get out the door each morning and head straight for Times Square. That's the real strength of staying somewhere like The Kimberly: a genuinely comfortable, spacious suite to come back to, in a location that puts you minutes away from everything New York is famous for.

Our Overall Thoughts

Our stay in the Luxury One Bedroom King Suite at The Kimberly Hotel was fantastic from start to finish. The suite itself was wonderfully spacious, with so much room to spread out as a family of four, elegant traditional decor throughout, a proper kitchenette, and that rare treat of a private balcony overlooking the city. Add in staff who prepared the sofa bed quickly and without any fuss, and a location that had us walking to Times Square within minutes, and it's easy to see why this hotel comes so highly recommended for families visiting New York.
