During our stay at the beautiful Sonesta Redondo Beach & Marina, one of the highlights for the whole family was the fantastic outdoor recreational area on the second floor. With a sparkling swimming pool, a relaxing jacuzzi, a tennis court, and a lovely terrace, this part of the hotel became a daily favourite for both fun and relaxation.
The swimming pool was absolutely gorgeous. Framed by palm trees and loungers, it felt like a true holiday escape. The kids couldn't get enough of it and spent hours splashing around and swimming. There were plenty of sunbeds available, and the atmosphere was chilled, clean, and welcoming. Whether it was morning sun or a sunset dip, the pool area always felt like a slice of paradise.
We also had the chance to book the tennis court, which is included in the stay at Sonesta. It was such a fantastic addition – and to our surprise, our kids loved it even more than we expected! The court is well maintained and spacious, with equipment available from the hotel. It was a great way to stay active as a family while having fun.
After all the activity, the jacuzzi was the perfect place to unwind. It’s tucked into a peaceful corner of the terrace and offers warm bubbles and a beautiful setting under the California sky. While the kids were off playing nearby, we enjoyed a moment of calm and recharging.
One detail we found quite charming was the terrace area itself. It features comfortable seating and faux greenery that gives a pop of colour and character – we’re not sure what the purpose of it was, but it gave the space a fresh, relaxed vibe.
Everything about the outdoor area at Sonesta Redondo Beach & Marina was designed for enjoyment. Whether you’re travelling with kids or looking to relax in the sunshine, it’s a gem of a spot that adds real value to your stay.
Next to the pool was another unexpected gem — a proper tennis court. We booked a session (included in our stay, which was a nice surprise), and it quickly became one of the most fun-filled hours of our trip. The court was immaculate and fenced in, so it felt really safe even with the kids running around. We brought along our rackets and balls, and before long, we had our own mini tennis tournament going. No strict rules — just loads of giggling, chasing the ball, and pretending we were at Wimbledon. The kids were beaming with joy, and even we couldn’t help but get swept up in the moment. It wasn’t about being good at tennis — it was about being together and making memories.
The jacuzzi was another wonderful surprise. Positioned out on the terrace, it had this serene, tucked-away vibe that made it feel like a secret spa. After a long day out or a session of splashing and running around, we found ourselves drawn to it again and again. The warm bubbles, the gentle jets, and the open-air setting made it the perfect way to wind down. It was so peaceful — a rare moment of quiet in a day filled with excitement. Though we weren’t sure if the kids were allowed to use it, we made the most of it as a chance to relax and reset while they dried off or played nearby.
The terrace itself deserves a mention. It’s such a lovely space — decked out in this unusual, quirky fake greenery that gave it a garden-like feel. We’re not quite sure what the greenery was for, but it added a pop of colour and made the area feel fresh and inviting. We found ourselves just sitting there, watching the world go by, chatting, or enjoying a quiet coffee while the kids unwound from the fun.
Looking back, the second floor at the Sonesta Redondo Beach & Marina hotel was more than just a set of facilities — it was the place where we slowed down, laughed the most, and connected as a family. Whether it was the joyful screams from the pool, the friendly tennis matches, the blissful calm of the jacuzzi, or the laid-back chats on the terrace, every inch of that floor became a memory etched in our hearts. It was truly the unexpected highlight of our trip, and the kids are already asking when we can go back. We definitely highly recommend the Sonesta Redondo Beach & Marina hotel.
