What are the Best Fake Markets in Belo Horizonte?

What are the Best Fake Markets in Belo Horizonte?

Belo Horizonte, or "BH" as locals like to call it, is one of Brazil’s popular cities. It is the capital of the state of Minas Gerais, famous for many things, including shopping.

Now, while most tourists visit the city looking for local crafts and arts from the region, behind the traditional markets and big shopping malls is another bustling scene of fake markets. These are places where you can find imitation designer bags, watches, clothes, and shoes at very low prices.

Fake markets are very popular in Brazil, especially in big cities like São Paulo and Rio. But Belo Horizonte has its own secret spots that many visitors miss. These markets are hidden in busy shopping streets or tucked inside large galleries and buildings. Let's take a look at some of them.

Feira Hippie (Hippie Fair)

While the Feira Hippie is usually only held on Sundays, along Avenida Afonso Pena, it is worth the wait. This fair is one of the most famous open-air markets in Brazil, best known for its handmade crafts, local foods, and artisan goods.

At first glance, it seems like a traditional market for art and cute gifts, but walk deeper into the maze of stalls and you will start noticing knockoff sunglasses, fake football shirts, shoes that look like Nike or Adidas, and handbags that closely resemble high-end designer labels.

Some sellers openly tell you that their items are “inspired” by famous brands, while others present them as original. Prices are very low and negotiable, so always try to ask for a discount.

Shopping Oiapoque

If you are serious about finding imitations of top brands, then Shopping Oiapoque is your top destination. Known to locals as simply "Oi," this indoor market is located in downtown Belo Horizonte. It is a massive shopping centre filled with small stands and shops that sell everything you can think of.

You will find shoes that look exactly like Jordans, Yeezys, or Nike Airs. Some even come in branded boxes. Clothes with famous logos, watches that resemble Rolex, and bags that look like Louis Vuitton everywhere.

Prices are much lower than in official stores, and the more you buy, the better the deals. Sellers are usually open to bargaining, especially if you pay in cash. Just be prepared, as it can get very crowded, especially on weekends. And always keep your personal belongings safe, as pickpockets sometimes visit busy areas like this.

Galeria Ouvidor

Galeria Ouvidor is a tall commercial building filled with music stores, tattoo shops, and fashion stores. It is not as clean or polished as a shopping mall, but it has a more organised feel compared to open-air markets.

You can find many imitation items here, including streetwear that copies famous international styles, like Supreme and Off-White, all without the big price tag. Many small independent brands also mix in, so you get both fakes and original looks.

Conclusion

Belo Horizonte may not be the first city you think of when it comes to fake markets in Brazil, but it definitely holds its own. From the huge and exciting Feira Hippie to the busy hallways of Shopping Oiapoque, there is something for everyone who loves shopping for imitations and bargains.

But as always, it is important to shop responsibly. While these goods are cheaper, remember that they don’t come with warranties or guarantees. Also, quality can vary a lot, so always check your items carefully.
