What are the Best Fake Markets in Kinshasa?

Kinshasa is the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a place full of energy and life. And when you find your way to the markets, they are a whole other experience.

Most tourists visiting this amazing country always just want to get something local or traditional, like a souvenir or a unique gift. While you will find these in plenty, you might also want to check out the fake markets. These places offer anything you can think of. Whether you want some nice shoes, branded clothing, watches and accessories, and even perfume and jewellery, it’s all here.

In this blog, we explore some of the best fake markets in Kinshasa where you can get fake designer items at the lowest prices.

Zando Market (Central Market)

Zando Market, also called Marché Central, is right in the heart of Kinshasa. It is one of the oldest markets in the city and very well-known. Everything is sold here, including fruits, vegetables, clothes, electronics, and of course, fake products.

If you are looking for second-hand clothes or fake luxury items, Zando is the place. There are sellers who have been there for years and know exactly how to spot a new customer. They are very welcoming and will try to show you the best items they have. Just watch your pockets and belongings. This market is fun, but can also be very crowded.

Marché Gambela

Marché Gambela is just as busy and full of life. It is located near Gombe, which is one of the central areas in Kinshasa. It is known for selling all types of fashion items, including fake designer clothes and accessories.

Here, you will find things like fake Gucci bags and “Louis Vuitton” belts. The quality of the fakes can be surprisingly good, with some items almost perfect. Others are more obvious fakes, but still stylish and fun to wear.

Street Hawkers and Vendors on the Go

Besides the large markets, Kinshasa has countless street hawkers who sell fake goods as they move through traffic or set up on sidewalks. These vendors are everywhere, especially around busy intersections and near large shops or bus stops.

They usually carry small items like sunglasses, watches, mobile phone accessories, and perfumes. While the selection is smaller, the prices are often the lowest. Plus, the sellers are usually quick and clever. They will even offer a “deal” if you buy more than one item.

Tips for Shopping for Fake Goods in Kinshasa

Bargain Hard

Prices are almost never fixed in these markets. Vendors usually start high, expecting you to negotiate. Don’t be shy. Offer a lower price, smile, and stay polite and friendly. Most sellers will meet you halfway if you show you know the game.

Check the details and Test Electronics First

Look closely at tags, stitching, materials, and even spelling. Fake shoes might say “Adibas” instead of “Adidas.” While this is just a part of the game, checking these small details can help you avoid really bad-quality items.

If you are buying things like headphones, speakers, or power banks, ask to test them first. Many vendors have batteries or demo units, so make sure the item actually works before you pay.

Keep Cash and Small Bills

Most vendors don’t accept cards, so it's best to carry cash and try to bring small bills. If you pull out a big note, the seller may claim they don’t have change, which may just be a tactic to keep more money, and you will end up overpaying.

Go with a Local

If you have a local friend or guide, take them with you. They know the language, the market flow, and how to get good prices. They can also help you avoid scams or being overcharged.
