What Are the Best Fake Markets in Tehran?

Tehran is the capital of Iran, a big, beautiful, and busy city full of life. Many people know Tehran for the beautiful views of the Alborz Mountains, the tall snow-capped mountains, sitting just behind the city.

But did you also know that on the streets of Tehran, you can find various markets selling “fake” or copy products? This is usually not talked about enough, but it can be a gem, especially for people who love fast fashion and trends.

These products might not be original brands, but they look very similar, and surprisingly, sometimes, have very good quality. Check out some of the best markets in Tehran below.

Tehran Grand Bazaar

The Tehran Grand Bazaar is the most famous market in the city. It is huge and busy, and you can find just about anything here, including spices, gold, carpets, traditional and modern fashion, kitchenware, electronics, and more.

Most of the goods are authentic and traditional, but of course, in a big market like this, you are also bound to find fake designer items. If you explore the smaller side alleys and less crowded corridors, you will find shops selling fake designer perfumes, watches, bags, and shoes.

You can also spot fakes by the super cheap prices. For example, if something says it is a famous brand but costs way less than usual, it is probably not the real thing.

Beyond shopping, the Grand Bazaar is a great place to see Tehran’s history, culture, and busy life all in one place, making it a fun spot for travellers who are just curious. So, while you are hunting for fake brands, don’t forget to just enjoy the whole experience.

Tajrish Bazaar

Tajrish Bazaar, in the north of Tehran, is a mix of old and new. While it is mostly known for spices and souvenirs, you can also find fake sunglasses, watches, handbags, and clothes. Some shops even try to convince you that their items are original, but the prices tell the truth.

This market is full of tourists, so the shopkeepers are friendly and used to questions. You can bargain to get even cheaper prices. Walk around slowly, enjoy the colours and smells, and keep your eyes open. You might just find a “Gucci” belt or “Ray-Ban” glasses for a bargain.

Jomeh Bazaar

This is a weekend flea market held in the heart of Tehran, usually in a multi-storey car park in the Parvaneh building. It is different from regular markets, with people selling both second-hand and new items. You will find fake designer goods, old cameras, cheap jewellery, fashion items and everything in between in just one place.

Not everything is neatly organised, so you have to search a bit, like a treasure hunt. Be ready to bargain, and try to go early in the mornings when it is not yet crowded and you are more likely to find the best items.

Conclusion

The secret to getting the best deals in these markets is doing thorough inspections of the products. Most are cheap, but you can be lucky to get high-quality items. Check the zippers, the material, the stitching, tears, and more.

You should also bargain, especially at open flea markets. Don't pay the first price mentioned. Sellers expect it, so they often quote higher prices.
