Hilton Reading Interconnecting Family Bedroom Review

We were absolutely blessed to be offered a two night stay at the Hilton Reading, and as a family of four – myself, my wife and our two children, we couldn't wait to get on the road. This was our very first visit to Reading, and we went in with high expectations, knowing how Hilton Hotels and Resorts prides itself on being a trusted host to guests the world over. Hilton creates environments where meaningful connections flourish, and from the moment we arrived, it was clear the team here bring genuine care and real hospitality expertise to every single interaction.

For our stay, we were given one of the hotel's Family Rooms, designed to comfortably sleep two adults and up to three children. This was exactly what we needed, and honestly, we couldn't have asked for a better set-up for our brood.

First Impressions

Walking through the door, it was a big WOW moment for all of us. The room was made up of two connecting bedrooms, giving us the space and privacy every family with young children craves on a trip away. The first bedroom had a lovely king-sized bed for my wife and me, dressed in crisp white linen, with a soft cream leather headboard and warm wooden trim that gave the whole space a really contemporary, welcoming feel.

Through the connecting door was the second bedroom, kitted out with two twin beds and a rollaway bed – meaning our two children each had their own bed, plus a spare, so there was absolutely no chance of anyone kicking each other awake in the night! Floor-to-ceiling windows ran the length of both rooms, flooding everything with natural light, and the neutral grey and cream decor with the odd contemporary art print on the walls made the whole thing feel calm, spacious and genuinely relaxing rather than your typical cramped hotel room.

Personal Touches That Made It Feel Special

What really stood out to us was how personalised the welcome felt. Sitting on the pillows of both beds were little paper gift bags – a pink one, a yellow one, a purple one and a blue one, each finished off with a smiley "Thank You" sticker. Inside, our children found the sweetest family activity packs: colouring books, mini colouring pencils, felt tip pens, a pair of sunglasses each and a bubble wand. It was such a thoughtful little touch and kept our two entertained happily on the bed while we settled in and unpacked. Little things like this genuinely make all the difference to families travelling with children, and it showed the hotel had really thought about who might be staying in this room.

Over on the glass coffee table by the window, we also found a small welcome card and a plate of fresh fruit – banana, apple, orange and a few berries – along with an ice bucket chilling a lovely selection of soft drinks, including cola, Fanta, Sprite and a fruit juice, with proper crystal-cut glasses to enjoy them from. After a long drive with the children, this was such a welcome sight, and it meant we didn't have to go hunting for snacks the second we arrived.

The Bedrooms

The main bedroom was generously sized, with the king bed taking pride of place beneath a striking piece of artwork above the headboard. There was a comfortable armchair tucked in the corner by the window, perfect for an evening read once the children were tucked up, along with two little round glass side tables where we kept our welcome fruit bowl. A large desk with an adjustable lamp and ergonomic chair sat against the opposite wall, ideal if you needed to catch up on any work emails, along with a 50-inch HDTV, a kettle with tea and coffee making facilities, and a telephone with speakerphone.

The second bedroom, with its twin beds and rollaway, mirrored the same warm, wood-toned styling, and had its own bedside lamps, phone and space to spread out. Both rooms had floor-to-ceiling windows looking out across Reading, and we were treated to a lovely view over the neighbouring rooftops, solar panels and trees – it was especially pretty as the evening sun came through.

Bathrooms

Each bedroom came with its own ensuite bathroom, which was an absolute godsend with two children needing to get ready at the same time. Both bathrooms were finished with sleek black granite countertops, mosaic tile detailing along the mirrors, and were fully stocked with Crabtree & Evelyn shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. One bathroom had a walk-in shower, while the other had a bath with an overhead shower attachment too, which was perfect for bathing the little ones after a busy day exploring. Fresh white towels, tissues and all the little extras you'd want were all there waiting for us, and everything felt spotlessly clean.

For Your Comfort and Convenience

Beyond the beds and bathrooms, the room ticked every box for a family stay. There was air conditioning throughout, black-out curtains in both bedrooms (a lifesaver for keeping the children asleep past sunrise), a safe, an iron and ironing board, and a mini-fridge, which we used to keep milk and snacks cool for the children. The interconnecting door between the rooms meant we could keep it open to hear the children through the night, or close it for a bit of peace once they were asleep, all while everything remained secured with double locking doors and electronic locks.

Our Overall Thoughts

Our two nights at the Hilton Reading was such a lovely, memorable stay. The interconnecting Family Room genuinely felt designed with families like ours in mind – separate sleeping spaces, thoughtful little touches like the children's activity bags, fresh fruit and drinks waiting for us, and rooms big enough that nobody felt on top of each other. It was warm, welcoming and personal, and it's exactly the kind of stay that makes travelling with young children that little bit easier.
We'd happily return to the Hilton Reading for another family getaway, and if you're travelling with children and want the privacy of separate rooms without losing that all-important family togetherness, this Family Room is well worth booking.
