Fake markets are nothing new in China. Many people (if not everyone) around the world know that China has long been a top destination when it comes to knock-off designer goods. From fake Louis Vuitton bags and Gucci belts to replica watches and branded sneakers that look almost identical to the real products, you can find just about anything in these markets.
Today, we are taking a look at the best fake markets in Dalian, a beautiful coastal city in northeast China. It may not be as famous as Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou when it comes to fake goods, but it has its own little world of fake markets, where you can find all kinds of replicas.
Right in the city centre, near Dalian Railway Station, you will find a very popular underground market called Victory Plaza. From the outside, it looks like just another city plaza, but underneath it is a huge maze of shops, hallways, and stalls. This underground market is one of the biggest and most well-known in Dalian, popular for shopping.
It is often busy, crowded, and full of energy, with multiple shops selling everything from phone cases and hair clips to “branded” perfumes, watches, wallets, and clothes. Some items have famous logos like “Supreme,” “Nike,” “Balenciaga,” or “Gucci,” but most of them are just copies.
There is a lot of fake electronics too. You might see AirPods that look like Apple’s, or phones and tablets that resemble Samsung or Huawei. Be very careful with these and always test them first before buying, as some might not work well.
You will also find some of the best fake shoe stalls in this Plaza, including fake Yeezys, Jordans, and Dunks that look almost like the original ones. The place is huge and can be fun, so it is easy to spend hours walking around. Make sure you are comfortable, take care of your belongings, and enjoy the hunt.
This is one of the most famous areas in Dalian. At a glance, it looks like a tourist street with European-style buildings, but inside many of the small shops selling souvenirs, you will also find knockoff goods.
There are stalls and small shops selling fake branded handbags that look just like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel, and Prada. You will also see watches that look like Rolex, Omega, or Tag Heuer. Some are cheap and clearly fake, but others look so real.
You will also find sports jerseys, fake Adidas and Nike shoes, and tons of sunglasses with brand logos on them. Bargaining is a must here, so never pay the first price. The quality can be a hit or miss too, but some of the fake items last for years and look great, making it worth the price.
Fake markets are not for everyone. If you care about brand authenticity or if you are worried about the legal or ethical issues, you might prefer shopping at official stores. But for many people, fake markets are a fun part of travelling in China.
In Dalian, the fake market culture is not as well-known, but there are still many places where you can find good replicas and affordable knockoffs. Russian Street, Victory Plaza, and pretty much other street shops and vendors are the best bets if you are looking for fake goods in the city.
