We were excited to discover that the Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel had a gym and an outdoor heated pool — both located on the second floor. We’d already enjoyed the comfort of our Club Double Queen Room and the relaxed vibe of the Executive Lounge, so the promise of a fitness and pool area gave us another reason to enjoy our stay without even leaving the hotel.
The fitness centre is spacious and split into two distinct areas — one side for cardio machines and the other for weights and strength training. Everything is clean, modern and well-maintained, with plenty of natural light during the day. We didn’t expect to enjoy a workout during a city stopover, but the facilities were so good that we made the effort. One of us jumped on the treadmill while the other explored the free weights. There was also a rowing machine, benches, medicine balls, and a Tonal digital system that looked super high-tech. For guests who enjoy cycling, the Peloton bikes are a nice touch too. Our children weren’t in workout mode, but they were more than happy to try a few yoga poses and copy our stretches, giggling away as they did.
After the gym, we all headed outside to the pool. This is where the second floor really comes to life. The pool area is surprisingly peaceful, especially for a hotel right next to LAX. The water was warm and inviting, and even though it was outdoors, the surrounding terrace gave it a cosy, private feel. The pool is set within the "Blue Butterfly Terrace" and has a clean, minimalist design with loungers neatly arranged around the water. The kids were straight in, splashing happily while we found a couple of loungers and relaxed.
The pool has gentle steps on one side, which was ideal for our youngest to ease into the water. There are plenty of towels available poolside, and while there were no pool toys, our kids didn’t mind — they invented their own games and had a great time just being in the water. It wasn’t busy during our visit, which made it even more enjoyable for our family of four. It felt like our own little urban escape above the airport buzz.
We didn’t order any food to the poolside, but we noticed that the hotel had mobile ordering available if we had wanted to. For us, this time was about unplugging — no screens, no phones, just a few hours of fun and family time together. It’s amazing how much a simple swim can lift everyone’s mood.
What made this experience special was the balance it brought to our day — a bit of movement, a bit of relaxation, and a lot of laughter. We didn’t expect much from a hotel gym or pool on a short city break, but both spaces exceeded our expectations.
If you're staying at the Renaissance LAX with kids, don’t skip the fitness and pool area. Whether you want to keep up your workouts or just enjoy a splash in the sun, it’s a brilliant spot for families to reset and recharge before your next adventure.
