There's something almost cinematic about opening the curtains in New York and finding Times Square looking straight back at you. That was exactly the moment we had on arrival at the Hyatt Regency Times Square, where we'd booked the Two Queen Beds Times Square View room, and it set the tone for the whole stay.
The room itself was wonderfully spacious for a Times Square hotel, 323 square feet of genuinely usable space rather than the cramped city rooms you sometimes brace yourself for in Manhattan. Two queen beds sat side by side, dressed in crisp white linen with plush pillows piled high, and a sleek 65-inch HDTV was mounted on a striking marble-topped media unit that ran the length of one wall. The whole room had a warm, contemporary feel, soft gold headboards, ambient lighting tucked behind them, and a patterned charcoal carpet underfoot that tied the whole look together.
The real showstopper, though, was the view. Being high up with a clear line straight into the heart of Times Square meant we had the Gucci sign, the EDITION building, and the endless flow of billboards and crowds laid out right beneath our window. It's one thing to walk through Times Square, but there's something completely different about looking down on it from above, watching the city move while you're tucked away in total quiet.
What made the arrival feel extra special was the little welcome table waiting for us, set with a bowl of fresh fruit, bottled water, a handful of protein bars and snack bars, a card welcoming us to the Hyatt Regency, and a card for the hotel's daily happy hour. Since both of our kids are runners, the hotel had also left us a Central Park running route map, marking out a scenic six-mile loop past the Lake, the Great Lawn and Bethesda Terrace. It was such a thoughtful, specific touch, and the kids were thrilled to have a proper route mapped out before they'd even asked for one.
One thing we noticed straight away was how well the air conditioning worked. New York in summer can be relentless, but the individual climate control in the room meant we could set it exactly how we liked and it held steady the whole stay, properly cool without ever feeling clinical. Blackout curtains kept the room dark and restful at night despite being right above the lights of Times Square, and having a minifridge and in-room safe made it easy to keep drinks cold and valuables secure without a second thought.
The bathroom was sleek and modern, finished in white marble-effect tiling with matte black fixtures that gave it a properly stylish, boutique feel. A large round backlit mirror above the sink lit up the whole space beautifully, and the counter was stocked with fresh towels, toiletries and a proper bathtub with an overhead shower, ideal for the kids after a long day of sightseeing.
Our stay in the Times Square View room at Hyatt Regency Times Square struck exactly the right balance between comfort and location. The room was spacious, beautifully finished, and kept us properly cool throughout, while that welcome spread, right down to the running route mapped out for the kids, showed a level of thoughtfulness that a lot of hotels simply don't bother with. And that view, waking up each morning to Times Square laid out beneath the window, is something none of us will forget in a hurry.
If you're planning a family trip to New York and want to be right in the middle of everything without sacrificing space or comfort, this room at the Hyatt Regency Times Square is very well worth booking.
