One of the real surprises of our stay at the Hyatt Regency Times Square was just how good the fitness centre turned out to be. Tucked away on the 15th floor, high above the noise of the street, it became something of a daily ritual for our family, especially with two keen young runners in tow who were absolutely delighted to find a proper, grown-up gym waiting for them.
Stepping out of the lift on the 15th floor and through a set of heavy double doors marked "Fitness Centre," it was clear straight away this wasn't going to be your average hotel gym tucked into a basement corner. The space opens up into a genuinely big, bright area, and the air conditioning was excellent throughout our stay, properly cool even after a hard session, which matters more than you'd think when you're exercising first thing on a humid New York morning.
The cardio section was easily one of the best we've come across in a hotel. Rows of treadmills, ellipticals and stationary bikes line up along a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows looking straight out over the Manhattan skyline, so you genuinely get fitness with a view. The treadmills themselves were properly impressive, the latest state-of-the-art models with their own screens, and our kids used them daily, absolutely buzzing about how much better they were than anything they'd used before. As keen young runners, they took full advantage, and having equipment that good made them want to come back every single morning.
There were also a handful of Peloton bikes with their own screens for guests wanting a guided ride, and the whole cardio area felt spacious enough that nobody was ever waiting around for a machine to free up.
Just beyond the cardio machines sat a full strength and functional training area, kitted out with a proper range of resistance machines, a Smith machine, and mirrored walls that made the whole space feel even bigger than it already was.
Further along, there was a dedicated space for free weights, dumbbells and kettlebells, a rowing machine, weight benches, and even TRX suspension cables hanging from an overhead rig for anyone wanting a proper functional workout. It genuinely felt like a serious gym rather than a hotel afterthought, and it was busy enough each time we visited to show just how much other guests were making use of it too.
The Yoga Room
One of the nicest surprises was a separate, glass-walled yoga room just off the main gym floor, fully mirrored with its own wall-mounted TV and a rack of yoga balls, medicine balls and light dumbbells for anyone wanting to stretch out or follow a class away from the main equipment. It's a lovely quiet space, and having it properly separated off meant it never felt crowded or noisy even when the rest of the gym was busy.
A Thoughtful Little Extra
Just outside the gym floor, there's a small refreshment station with folded towels, a fridge of complimentary bottled water, and a bowl of snacks laid out on a lovely tiled counter, a small touch, but a genuinely useful one after a proper workout when the last thing you want to do is head back to the room before rehydrating.
The fitness centre at the Hyatt Regency Times Square completely exceeded our expectations. It's spacious, beautifully maintained, kept properly cool throughout, and equipped with genuinely top-tier machines, right down to those state-of-the-art treadmills our kids couldn't get enough of. Between the skyline views, the dedicated yoga room, and just how well looked after the whole space felt, it turned into a proper part of our daily routine rather than something we visited once out of curiosity.
If you're staying at the Hyatt Regency Times Square and like to keep up your fitness routine while travelling, or if you're bringing along your own keen young runners, this gym is very well worth the trip up to the 15th floor.
