After a full day of exploring Los Angeles, we were ready for a relaxed, satisfying dinner — and we didn’t have to go far. Located right on the ground floor of Hotel Indigo Downtown LA, Metropole Bar and Kitchen became the perfect spot for our family of four to unwind, enjoy great food, and soak up the atmosphere.
The restaurant has a stylish, intimate feel with a warm and modern design that draws on LA’s glamorous past. It’s sleek without being stuffy — soft lighting, dark woods, elegant tiling, and a layout that feels both open and cosy at the same time. It’s connected to the lobby but cleverly designed so that once you’re seated, you feel tucked away in your own space. That feeling was especially true for us because we were given the booth — the one with the curved, high-backed seats and dramatic winged sides that we had seen earlier when exploring the space.
From the moment we sat down, the service was excellent. The staff were warm, welcoming, and quietly attentive, always on hand to help but never intrusive. They took care of every detail with ease, especially when it came to our dietary requests. We follow a vegan diet, and not only were they accommodating — they genuinely made us feel like it was no trouble at all.
To start, we had the vegan tacos — corn tortillas filled with Impossible meat, fresh pico de gallo, and a silky avocado mousse. They arrived beautifully plated and full of flavour. The mains were just as satisfying. One of us had the vegan bolognese — a rich, slow-cooked ragu made with Impossible meat and served with rigatoni — and the other had the MBK burger, usually made with wagyu, but adapted brilliantly to be plant-based. The team swapped the patty for an Impossible burger, removed the bacon jam, changed the bread, and served it alongside crispy fries. It was hearty, indulgent, and didn’t feel like a compromise in the slightest.
The kids had their own moments of joy — one went for vegan chicken fingers with chips, and the other chose a mini Impossible burger and fries. Their meals were brought out just right, portioned well, and they absolutely loved them. No fussing, no food left behind — which, for parents, always feels like a win.
By the end of the evening, we were full, happy, and in no rush to leave our cosy booth. We sat chatting for a while longer, enjoying the warm atmosphere and taking in the soft glow of the space as the evening wound down.
Dining at Metropole Bar and Kitchen was more than just a convenient hotel meal — it was a real highlight of our stay. The thoughtful design, incredible staff, and delicious food came together to create a dinner we’ll remember. If you’re staying at Hotel Indigo or even just passing through Downtown LA, we’d wholeheartedly recommend stopping in for a meal. And if you get the booth? Even better.
